PRECEPT FOR 2011/ 2012

Neath Town Council has confirmed, that despite the present economic climate, they will be decreasing the precept by 9% for 2011/12  This is a great achievement for Neath Town Council and the fourth consecutive year the precept has not increased.  The charge for a "Band D"  property will now be less than £1 a week.  This is for all the services the Council provides for the residents of Neath and its surrounding catchment areas of Llantwit, Cimla, Mount Pleasant, Melyncryddan and Penrhiwtyn. 

As well as continuing with existing services, Councillors are committed to the ongoing maintenance, improvements and security of their community halls, in addition to  updating or renewal of bus shelters and seats, with committment to replacing four new bus shelters and a seat this year.

Work has now completed on the final phase of refurbishment at the Melyncryddan Community Centre. A new ceiling to the main hall, lighting, screen, heating system and decoration.  Two plaques were unvieled to actors Maudie Edwards and William Squires, who were both born in Florence Street, Melyn.

 The Neath Day Centre has  also been refurbished with a new kitchen, a new suspended ceiling  with new furniture for the the Community Centre.

A new three storey disabled lift is being installed in theTown Hall.  New tables and chairs have also been purchased.

 Work has also been carried out at the two allotment sites, with the installation of new security fencing.  Discussions are also taking place with NPTCBC for the provision of a plot of land adjacent to the Fairyland Allotments for the expansion of the allotment site.

ANNUAL RETURN FOR YEAR END APRIL 2010

The final report from "Mazars",   the Audit Commission for Wales specified contractor, had been received. The auditor confirmed "there were no issues in respect of which they proposed to qualify their audit opinion on the Annual Return for year ending 31st march 2010".  This was excellent news for Councillors.
