Christmas Lights Switch On

The town of Neath was a buzz with the annual Christmas Carol Concert in Angel Square, Neath.

Around 3,000 residents crammed into the streets of Neath to join in with the Salvation Army and cast of Cinderella, Gwyn Hall to provide an evening of music, fun and laughter.

This year’s event has marked a milestone in the development of a new Community Events team which included Neath Inspired Limited, FACE, Kier, Gwyn Hall, Tecwins Twist, Swansea Bay Radio and the Salvation Army being established in early 2017 to come together and plan this years event.

With extremely limited resources, all the community groups agreed that they wanted to provide a fun evening for everybody in the heart of Neath.

Neath Town Mayor, Cllr. Mark Protheroe commented after the event ‘The night was a huge success and all the organisers were delighted in how many people came to support the community. It is a true example of partnership working at its best. The feedback we have all had since last night has been so positive and it is hoped that this will bring the Christmas cheer to the town and surrounding areas for the rest of the festive season. All those who were committed to provide the concert this year, came up with ideas and gave up so much of their time to help should be thanked in making it such a success. A true community event!’

The Community Events team have already been approached by lots of organisations, Neath businesses and traders who wish to be involved in whats on in Neath next year’s event.

This year Neath Town Council continue to fund three School Crossing Patrol Officers which have been withdrawn by Neath Port Talbot County Borough Council due to financial pressures. Neath Town Council feel very strongly that these vital positions which safeguard the children on a daily basis, be protected
