Councillor Bob Price - Neath Town Mayor
Cllr. Bob Price is married to
Sara. He was born and spent his early years in the mining village of Gwaun Cae
Gurwen. After attending the local primary school there he continued his
education at Pontardawe Technical School gaining GCE passes in Maths, Religious
Instruction, Woodwork and Welsh. (When collecting his results the school head
told him he was well qualified for a job as an undertaker)! Not taking this advice, he worked in the coal industry until he was able to fulfil a long time ambition by joining the Police force.
During his 30 years’ service he worked throughout South Wales ending his service as a Community Sergeant at Bonymaen, Swansea. After retirement he continued to work at various jobs until my final retirement when he reached 65. He then joined the Labour Party, although had always been a keen socialist but owing to his previous employment, he was unable to join a political party. Whilst attending a local meeting he was asked if he would be prepared to represent the Mount Pleasant Ward of Neath. Having for most of his life working in a public service environment it was an easy decision to agree to this new challenge.
Serving the community of Neath with the Neath Town Council has been a new era in his life, one that has made him look at Neath with fresh eyes, especially during the last year when he had the honour of representing Neath Town as it’s Mayor.
Outside his Civic Duties he enjoys gardening, Welsh Rugby but most of all spending time with his family, Sara, Richard, Emma, Taylor, Finley and Lilly
